Gia

Gia was feeling downright confident about the Shadetree project when the meeting came to a close. The owners appeared to be delighted with the PR spots she’d secured already. Apparently it was their first time hiring a PR firm, so they were excited to see what would happen with this being their most publicized event.

It was always pleasant to feel like you could do no wrong on a project. Even if Gia had managed to secure only half of the spots she had, it would have been a boon for the gallery. But they were paying to get the very best Gia could deliver.

Della had told her he’d meet her there after the meeting, so Gia said goodbye to her boss and the gallery owners and entered the warehouse-like space in search of her friend. She wasn’t quite sure what to think of the kiss they’d shared. It had been incredibly pleasurable, both physically and emotionally, and Gia’s body was calling for her to repeat the experience.

But she didn’t want to do that unless she knew what the consequences would be. It had been Della who’d initiated, which Gia hadn’t been expecting. Della’s characteristic aloofness sometimes made it difficult to determine how she really felt, and Gia hadn’t had any idea that she’d felt so warmly toward her.

It wasn’t territory Gia knew how to navigate. She’d known Della for nearly a decade and didn’t want to sour anything between them, especially now that they’d rekindled their connection. Gia didn’t want to sacrifice their friendship for a potential relationship, but she couldn’t help but be tempted by the possibilities. They’d be perfect together, even though they superficially seemed like opposites.

But what exactly did Della want?

Gia spotted the artist speaking to some other people. When Della saw Gia approaching, she broke off from the group and waved, a cheerful smile on her face. It was a far cry from how aloof she’d appeared when they’d first met.

“Hey,” said Della, striding over. Gia enveloped her in a hug, suddenly realizing she quite enjoyed the feeling of Della’s body pressed up against hers.

“Hey,” said Gia. “This space is pretty cool, isn’t it?”

“Is it your first time visiting?” asked Della.

“No,” said Gia. “I came here once before, briefly, when I was assigned the project. But I didn’t get a great look at it that time and I’m only now realizing just how big it is.”

“Yeah,” said Della. “It used to just be a warehouse or something, but they did a great job converting it. Like, I can’t believe there are even these individual, private studio spaces for artists to rent out.”

“Do you have one?” asked Gia.

“Oh no,” said Della. “My studio is a room in my house.”

“I guess it costs money to rent one of these out,” said Gia, surveying the space.

“They gotta make money somehow,” agreed Della. “Anyway, I wanted to ask if you’re free tonight.”

“What’s happening tonight?” asked Gia.

“A show at my friend Emily’s place,” said Della. “You wanna come? I haven’t been going to shows recently, so I really should show up at this one.
